These are my suggestions for you as you explore making your own fractals. As you saw on the previous pages, we created many images using just ONE basic starting image. Each one of these images holds it's own unique potential limited only by your creativity! There are dozens of basic images to start with in this program, each with unlimited potential! Don't get discouraged if at first you don't get the results you would like! A professional photographer will take many photos before he gets ONE he deems a "good" one! Experiment, experiment, experiment! Keep a notepad handy to record what you try or formulas you create. Make small changes, ONE at a time and observe the result and you will soon get a grasp of what each parameter changes. Save your image as soon as you get a "keeper"! If you make a change before you save it, you will have lost it forever, unless you can remember EXACTLY what each parameter was! (See notepad tip!!!) To save an image, just click your right mouse button over image and select "save as" or go to "File" on the toolbar and do the same. Name the file whatever you wish. I name mine starting with a letter, then a number. Ex.:1A, 2A, 3A etc. Beware! You can use a great deal of your hardrive saving these images! I have accumulated several Gigabytes of saved images! You can open these images later within the program and explore them further. It's very easy to get off on a tangent exploring the subsequent images when you still want to experiment with the original that you saved. Don't forget, you can always go back to the original image in the future if you've saved it. If you didn't, it's gone forever! :(

A quick comment on saving images. Tierra-Zon saves all images as BMP files. To obtain better image quality try "anti-aliasing" the image when you generate it. Here's what I mean. Select "auto anti-alias" from the menu. Then right click on image & select xy size parameters. Select final size that you wish to use, then select ok. This will start to generate an image at twice the size that you have selected. This takes much longer to generate (possibly hours depending on image formula, size and speed of your computer!). This higher resolution generation results in better image quality for your final "keepers"! |

You can then convert the images to JPEG files etc. using another graphics program such as Paintshop Pro, Adobe Photoshop or numerous other graphics programs. I used a free program called Irfanview, that has many nice features, to convert all the images on this site. If you would like to try it, you can find a link on my download page to download this free program. Now that you have completed this basic tutorial you may wish to check out my Julia Fractals Tutorial! You can find that here: |
