Fractal Formula Tutorial Page 3 - How to write your own unique fractal formulas

So, as you can see we can achieve basic shapes using the formula editor by changing simple parameters within the formula. We will continue to modify this first basic formula to create additional shapes and forms.

Step 1

Fractal ImageOpen up the Unique Editor again and change the previous formula by adding one more "Z" parameter, z*z*z*z*z*z+c.

Step 2

Fractal ImageAs you can see, we have now created a five point star fractal form. This was not chance, but understanding, by observation, how we can change a basic formula to achieve a specific fractal form.

Step 3

Fractal Image Let's try modifying this formula again. Once again, open the formula editor and add one more z to the previous formula, z*z*z*z*z*z*z+c.

Step 4

Fractal Image By changing the formula we have created another change to the image, which is now a six point, symetrical star shape. Take a minute before continuing and experiment by increasing the Z paramter several times, and observe the shapes you can achieve. As you continue to add these Z parameters, the outside points become finer, and finer.

Step 5

Fractal Image If you have continued experimenting, re-enter the following formula: z*z*z*z*z*z*z+c. Up to this time we have been using the M-set (the default). This time click on the N-Set button and click on the ok button. See example below.

Step 6

Fractal ImageWe still have the same basic shape, but the inside coloring has changed. Without getting into technical reasons for this, just understand that this is another option for experimenting. The shape is the same, but the way the fractal is rendered changes.

Let's move on to page 4.
